  60. With versions of the OS before 2.1 Commodore supplied text-to-speech
  61. software on the Workbench discs. This library replaces the Commodore
  62. supplied translator library. The origional translates text to phonemes
  63. for use with the narrator device. It is used in software with speech
  64. output such as "Say" and "Term".
  65.  
  66. Unfortunately for non-American users the origional library translates
  67. all text as if it were American English. It can not handle other
  68. languages or dialects.

  70. This library is a drop-in replacement and works with all software that
  71. currently uses the Commodore speech system.  With this version of
  72. translator library (version 42.1) the user can specify which language
  73. the translator should use.  The following languages/dialects/accents
  74. are supported by this library:

  76.     English        American    Deutsch
  77.     Italiano    Cymraeg        Maori
  78.     Suomi           Svenska         
  79.  
  80. Not all useful I know. However it is not difficult to write
  81. translation files for other languages with the exception of languages
  82. like English and French which have more exceptions than most.  I hope
  83. that users of this system will be motivated to create accent
  84. description files for the language(s) they speak.

  87. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  88.  
  89. Requires any version of the OS greater than 1.3.  Some features are
  90. not supported on pre-2.04 systems and systems without the locale
  91. library.

  93. To be of any practical use it requires any version of the narrator
  94. device and software that talks.
